Getting Started - Overview

The purpose of this guide is to provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to set up your SmartBuild software. This guide is designed to get you up and running as quickly and efficiently as possible. The more accurate and detailed the information you provide during this setup process, the more accurate your quotes, diagrams and other outputs will be.

We have prepared an implementation-video series to watch alongside the following steps.  There is also a document attached below that you can use for reference. Google Drive Link

We are constantly updating the software and our most current steps to follow are as listed below:


Step 1: Framing – Set up your framing parts, these are the primary frame parts shown in the 3D model, like wood columns or steel I-beams. Framing Video 

Step 2: Systems – Identifying and creating your different product systems you will offer on your buildings, starting with the basic Metal products and expanding into Vinyl, Shingles and others if you want an advanced experience. Systems Video

Step 3: Colors – Adding or editing existing colors. With metal colors, it can be a basic Hex code and many are already there for your convenience. Shingles and stone products are a little more involved. Colors Video

Step 4: Sheathing – Setting up your default roofing, siding and soffit materials, such as 29 Ga. ag panel, or Vinyl siding. Sheathing Video 

Step 5: Trim – Setting up all the products that visually complete your 3D model, like rake and corner trims, base trims, overhang trims, and more. Trim Video 

Step 6: Foundation– Customize your quotes, material takeoffs, 2-D and 3-D diagrams, and other outputs to display your company’s logo and desired content. Foundation Video 

Step 7:  Walkdoors – Adding Entry man doors to the catalog, along with the necessary hardware items they require, like a door knob. Walkdoors Video 

Step 8: Overhead Doors – Adding large overhead doors to the catalog, along with the necessary hardware items they require, like operators. Overhead Doors Video

Step 9: Slider Doors – Adding Slider doors to the catalog, if you order them in a kit or walking through having SmartBuild create them as Custom. Slider Doors Video

Step 10:  Windows – Adding windows to the catalog, along with the necessary hardware items they may require.  Windows Video

Step 11: Cupolas – Adding Cupolas to the catalog, along with the necessary hardware items they may require such as weathervanes. Cupolas Video

Step 12: Hardware – Adding Connectors, Fasteners, and other general hardware items used on your buildings. Hardware Video

Step 13: Sheathing Assemblies– Understanding sheathing assemblies, setting them up so your take-offs are complete, this includes fasteners for metal or vapor barrier for underlayments. Sheathing Assemblies Video

Step 14: Trim Assemblies – Understanding trim assemblies, setting them up so your take-offs are complete, examples include closures for ridge cap and seam tapes. Trim Assemblies Video

Step 15: Trusses – Building out your truss catalog. Trusses Video

Step 16: Labor – Setting up cost factors for Labor calculations Labor Video

Step 17: Freight – Each setting found in our framing rules, and a brief explanation. Freight Video

Step 18Packages – Create associations between materials used in conjunction with one
 another to fulfill a single function. (For example: for each door, include a knob)
